TMJ Splints

A tmj splint is not a thicker night guard; it is a therapeutic instrument executed to a mandibular position you define. Our appliance department fabricates stabilization and repositioning designs to your records and concept, from our California, Colorado, and Texas labs, delivered to practices nationwide.

What Is a TMJ Splint?

A tmj splint is an occlusal appliance used in the management of temporomandibular disorders: it establishes a defined bite position, redistributes joint and muscle load, and gives your diagnostics something reproducible to work with. Patients may call it a tmj mouth splint or simply the splint for tmj their dentist ordered; clinically, the design follows the therapeutic concept, not the other way round. Splint therapy, its goals, and its duration remain the treating clinician's territory. Our part is precision: an appliance that reproduces your registered position exactly, seats without rocking, and can be adjusted chairside without falling apart.

When Splint Therapy Enters Your Treatment Plan

Myofascial pain, disc displacement patterns, joint noise with dysfunction, or a planned occlusal rehabilitation that needs a validated jaw relation first: these are classic entry points for a bite splint for tmj management. A tmj splint can also serve diagnostically, testing whether a changed mandibular position relieves symptoms before anything irreversible is planned. Which indication applies, and whether an oral splint for tmj is the right conservative step, is your diagnosis; we build the instrument to match it and keep the records on file for the follow-up stages.

What does a TMJ splint cost from the lab?

We quote lab fees per case to accounts rather than publishing figures: tmj splint cost depends on the design, the material, and whether therapy will need staged adjustments or remakes. Open a lab account for the appliance fee schedule; for splint-therapy programs with recurring cases we are happy to talk standing arrangements.

Do you fabricate a permanent TMJ splint?

We fabricate splints built for long wear, robust materials and serviceable surfaces included. Whether an appliance should be worn permanently is a therapeutic decision with real occlusal consequences, and it belongs to you and, where involved, the patient's specialist. Tell us the intended wear regime on the Rx and the material and thickness will be chosen to survive it.

How do adjustments work over the course of therapy?

Splint therapy is iterative by nature. Chairside adjustments are expected and the acrylic tolerates them; when the position itself changes, send updated records and we remount rather than guess. Within 30 days of fabrication we can work from stored digital case data on request; after that, fresh records protect accuracy, at your discretion.

TMJ splint or occlusal splint: is there a difference?

The terms overlap heavily in the literature and in search bars. We use tmj splint when joint and muscle management leads the indication, and occlusal splint when the occlusion itself is the primary target; the occlusal splint vs night guard distinction has its own page in our appliance program. Name the clinical goal on the Rx and the design follows it, whatever the label.
