TMJ Mouth Guards
Night guards built for TMJ patients: balanced occlusal contacts, controlled vertical dimension, and finishing comfortable enough for nightly wear. Fabricated to your prescription in our California, Colorado, and Texas labs and delivered nationwide.

What Is a TMJ Mouth Guard?
A TMJ mouth guard is a custom occlusal guard designed with the temporomandibular joint in mind. Where a standard bruxism guard primarily protects tooth structure, a night guard for TMJ patients is adjusted for evenly distributed contacts and a vertical dimension that respects the joint situation you are managing. The design follows your prescription: coverage, material hardness, and occlusal scheme are set by you and executed precisely by the lab. In TMJ cases, sloppy occlusal surfaces do not just wear teeth; they can aggravate the symptoms you are trying to manage.
When to Choose a TMJ Mouth Guard for Your Patient
Prescribe a TMJ mouth guard for patients whose bruxism or clenching interacts with joint or muscle symptoms and who need nightly protection with a controlled bite situation. For active splint therapy with defined therapeutic repositioning, a stabilization splint is the dedicated instrument; we fabricate TMJ splints as well and build whichever appliance your treatment plan calls for.

Open a Lab AccountTMJ mouth guard vs. TMJ splint: what is the difference?
A TMJ mouth guard is primarily protective: it manages bruxism forces with a joint-conscious occlusal design. A TMJ splint is a therapeutic instrument with a defined repositioning or stabilization goal, adjusted over the course of therapy. Which one your patient needs is your clinical call; we fabricate both to prescription.
Hard, soft, or combo: which material for TMJ patients?
Note your preference on the Rx: hard guards give the most controlled occlusal surface, combo designs add wearing comfort with a soft inner liner, and soft guards suit selected cases. If you want a recommendation, describe the patient's situation and the responsible technician will discuss options with you before fabrication.
What records do you need?
Impressions or intraoral scans of both arches plus a bite record, ideally in the jaw relation you want the guard fabricated in. The more precisely the bite is documented, the less chairside adjustment you will need at the seat appointment.
Can you adjust the occlusal scheme to my specification?
Yes. That is the point of a lab-made TMJ guard. Specify canine guidance, group function, or a flat-plane scheme, and we adjust the appliance on the articulator accordingly. If the Rx leaves the scheme open, we ask before we build.
